(My Sportsbook) - The
Atlanta Thrashers aren't booking their spring tee times just yet.
Yannick Tremblay and Dan Snyder scored third-period goals as the Thrashers rallied to earn a 3-3 tie against Edmonton at the SkyReach Centre on Sunday. Daniel Tjarnqvist also scored for the Thrashers, who have just one victory in their last seven games (1-4-2).
"We were asleep for two periods," coach Bob Hartley said. "But the third period was one our best of the year."
Hartley's crew could have earned a win with the effort, had a goal early in the final frame not been waved off. Patrick Stefan put the puck in the cage, but Edmonton's Steve Staios knocked the net off its moorings to draw a whistle.
"I thought it should have counted," Dany Heatley, who thought a penalty should have been called on Staois, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "At the least, it should have been a penalty shot."
Eric Brewer had a goal and an assist for the Oilers, who have not won in six games (0-3-1-2). Mike Comrie and Staios also scored for Edmonton.
Milan Hnilicka made 22 saves for Atlanta, while Tommy Salo stopped 29 shots for the Oilers.
Heatley, who finished with a pair of assists, took a shot from the top of the left circle that Salo stopped. The rebound, however, came to Tremblay at the right side of the net and he scored his sixth goal of the season to pull the Thrashers within a goal, 3-2, at 14:32 of the third period.
Heatley had the puck along the left wing boards in the Edmonton zone and moved into the circle looking for a shot, instead, Heatley fed a pass to Snyder, who was moving toward the net from the right circle. Snyder beat Salo with a low shot to even the score with 2:55 to play in the third.
Comrie opened the scoring with a power-play goal with 15 seconds left in the first period. Staios scored shorthanded 1:37 into the second stanza to give the Oilers a 2-0 advantage.
Tjarnqvist's third goal of the season got the Thrashers on the board at 3:35 of the middle stanza, but Brewer gave Edmonton a 3-1 lead at 14:11 of the stanza.
