Detroit, MI (My Sportsbook) - The Detroit Red Wings may have captain Steve Yzerman in the lineup when they welcome the
Los Angeles Kings to Joe Louis Arena tonight. Detroit hopes to push its winning streak to three in the opener of a brief two-game homestand.
Yzerman has not appeared this campaign after offseason surgery on his right knee. The 37-year-old is slated to participate in the pre-game skate this evening.
"He's definitely going to participate in pre-game warm-ups," coach Dave Lewis said Monday. "And we'll definitely decide after that if he's going to play."
Yzerman, who played through tremendous pain during the Wings' Stanley Cup run last spring, has tallied 658 goals and 1,004 assists during his career. When he does return to action, it will begin his 20th NHL season.
After topping the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday, the Red Wings made it two straight wins with a 5-1 triumph over the Washington Capitals on Saturday. Mathieu Dandenault and Pavel Datsyuk scored 15 seconds apart in the first period, while Tomas Holmstrom, Luc Robitaille and Kris Draper also tallied for the Red Wings, who have not lost in regulation in their last six games (5-0-0-1).
Curtis Joseph made 17 saves for Detroit, which has outscored its opponents 11-3 in its two wins and tallied 29 goals in the last six contests.
Sergei Fedorov assisted on Dandenault's tally to extend his point streak to seven games. Fedorov, who leads the team with 58 points (23g, 35a), has three goals and nine assists during his current tear.
Dandenault and Datsyuk each added an assist for the Red Wings, who with 76 points are locked in a tie with St. Louis atop the Central Division. Detroit also has two games in hand.
The Red Wings, who have won three of their last four on home ice, are 18-6-5-2 in Detroit this season and will close the brief homestand on Thursday when Toronto pays a visit.
Los Angeles, on the other hand, is fighting for its playoff life and enters Monday's tilt on a winning note after Friday's 3-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres.
Bryan Smolinski and Zigmund Palffy each scored two goals to lead the Kings' onslaught, while Jamie Storr stopped 31-of-32 shots. The Kings improved to 14-0-2 this season when both Palffy and Smolinski score goals.
Smolinski has seven goals in his last 11 games, while Palffy has nine goals and seven assists in that same time-frame.
LA, which has won seven of its last 10 overall, is currently 10th in the Western Conference with 60 points, seven points behind the eighth-place Edmonton Oilers.
The Kings, who have dropped seven of their last nine away from home, will be playing the third leg of a five-game road trip this evening. On opposition ice this season, LA is 10-14-3-4.
Detroit, which is winless in its two meetings with the Kings (0-1-1) this season, is unbeaten in its last four (3-0-1) in Motown against LA.
