Kansas City, MO (My Sportsbook) - The Detroit Tigers will try to stay on the winning track when they play the rubber match of a three-game series against the Kansas City Royals tonight at Kauffman Stadium.

On Wednesday, Carlos Pena had three hits and scored on Chris Truby's sacrifice fly in the 12th inning, as the Tigers snapped a six-game losing streak with a 7-6 triumph.

Shane Halter hit a two-run homer and Randall Simon went 4-for-6 with a solo home run and had three RBI for Detroit, which won for just the sixth time in its last 33 games. It was also only the third win in the last 18 contests for the Tigers at Kauffman Stadium.

Michael Tucker and Joe Randa each had three hits and drove in a run for the Royals, who have dropped six of their last nine games. Carlos Beltran hit a two-run homer and became the first player in Royals' history to score 100 runs and get 100 RBI for three seasons. He's had 100-100 seasons two straight years.

Adam Bernero (4-7) picked up the win by striking out three over three innings, while Hill (0-1) was tagged with the loss after throwing two frames.

Royals pitcher Paul Byrd, who started his career-high 33rd game of the season, allowed 10 hits and six runs over 6 2/3 innings. Sparks was lit up for nine hits and five runs -- two earned -- over 6 1/3 frames.

The struggling Jeff Suppan takes the hill for the Royals tonight, once again trying to end his epic losing streak. The righthander has gone 0-9 in his last 11 starts and has not won since July 17. In his last three starts, Suppan has yielded eight runs during 20 1/3 innings. He last pitched on September 18 and gave up three runs on 11 hits through eight innings in a 3-1 loss at Chicago.

Suppan is 2-2 with a 5.08 ERA in five starts against the Tigers this season. On September 13, he faced Detroit and allowed two runs on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings in a 4-2 loss at Comerica Park.

For his career, Suppan has gone 7-6 with a 4.81 ERA against the Tigers. At home this year, he is 7-4 with an ERA of 5.18 in 14 starts.

Nate Cornejo counters for the Tigers, aiming for just his second win of the season. The 23-year-old righthander has gone 0-2 in his last five starts since his last win on April 27. In his first start since May 20, Cornejo allowed two runs on five hits, with no walks and two strikeouts in a 4-2 loss to Suppan and Kansas City on September 13. He pitched six scoreless innings before allowing three consecutive hits to start the seventh.

In his last three starts, Cornejo has allowed 10 runs through 14 innings. He was recalled from the minors before his last start and will have the chance to make one more start before the end of the season.

In three starts on the road this year, he has gone 0-2 with a 7.63 ERA. Lifetime, he is 1-1 with an ERA of 5.46 versus the Royals.

The season series, which will be determined tonight, is tied at 9-9. Kansas City is 6-2 against the Tigers at home this year. Over the past two seasons, the Royals have gone 14-4 versus Detroit at home.
