Los Angeles, CA (My Sportsbook) - The
Golden State Warriors try for their third straight win and an improbable playoff push when they travel to Los Angeles to take on the Clippers at Staples Center.
Golden State has won 18 of its last 30 games and now finds itself just three games behind the Houston Rockets for the eighth and final postseason berth in the Western Conference.
The Warriors are coming off a 94-89 victory over the Denver Nuggets. Gilbert Arenas scored 19 points in the win. Earl Boykins and Chris Mills each chipped in with 14 points off the bench for the Warriors, who were somewhat fatigued on the second night of a back-to-back set.
"The last three games the starters, including [Antawn] Jamison, have had to really work hard at the defensive end, and tonight some other guys got an opportunity," Golden State coach Eric Musselman said. "We played some guys that were fresh and they came up with some big-time contributions.
"We were coming off a back-to-back, and our starters have done a great job for us all season long. We felt like we were a little bit lethargic, and for good reason."
The Warriors are 10-18 on the road and have a 13-24 mark within the Western Conference. A win tonight would give Golden State its first four-game winning streak since January 27-February 4, 2000.
Los Angeles has no postseason aspirations and has dropped two straight and four of its last five games. In addition, the Clippers have dropped 11 of their last 14 games overall and 11 of their last 16 home games.
The Clippers are coming off a 109-98 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Corey Maggette led the way with 22 points and Elton Brand chipped win with 21 points and eight rebounds.
Maggette also guarded Kobe Bryant most of the night. Bryant had scored at least 40 points in nine straight games entering the contest, tying Michael Jordan's mark. Maggette held Bryant to 32 points.
"That was my objective," Maggette said of holding Bryant below 40. "I take defense seriously."
The Clippers are 11-18 at home and 11-22 within the Western Conference.
Los Angeles and Golden State have split two meetings this season and the Clippers have won nine of the last 15 meetings between the teams.
