(My Sportsbook) - When the
Dallas Stars signed defenseman Philippe Boucher to a contract last summer, it wasn't for his goal-scoring. That's why the events of Wednesday night were a bonus.
Boucher's goal 5:36 into the third period snapped a tie and propelled Dallas to a 7-4 win over Chicago at AmericanAirlines Center. Boucher, Niko Kapanen and Claude Lemieux each posted a goal and an assist, while Mike Modano, Jere Lehtinen, Steve Ott and Scott Young also scored for the Stars, who have won two straight.
It was by no means a perfect victory over the slumping Blackhawks, but it's nonetheless a win, and two points.
"We'll take the two points, we need them," Boucher said. "But at the same time, we know we have to play better."
Ron Tugnutt stopped 21 shots, while Kirk Muller and Pierre Turgeon each finished with two assists to help Dallas sweep the four-game season series against the Blackhawks. Muller registered the 600th assist of his career.
Sergei Berezin scored twice for the Blackhawks, who have lost their last eight (0-6-0-2). Mark Bell and Chris Simon also scored, while Steve Sullivan delivered two assists.
Dallas, which is unbeaten in its last five home games (3-0-2), leads the NHL with 91 points. With just three regulation losses in their last 30 games (19-3-7-1), the Stars have already surpassed last year's point total of 90.
Berezin's goals tied it for Chicago at 4-4 early in third period. He beat Tugnutt off a rebound 1:09 into the period, then converted on a shot from between the circles 41 seconds later.
Boucher responded 5:36 into the third with the game-winner for the Stars. His shot from the left circle, off a cross-ice pass from Turgeon, got past Blackhawks goaltender Steve Passmore.
"As a [defenseman] you don't want to go in all the time, you want to keep your position," Boucher said. "With Pierre you know he's going to see you. He did and he made a great play.
Young and Kapanen added insurance goals to secure Dallas' fourth straight win in the series and extend its unbeaten streak against Chicago to six games (5-0-1).
The Stars played their third game without All-Star Bill Guerin, who may miss the remainder of the regular season after suffering a thigh injury that required emergency surgery.
