Charlotte, NC (My Sportsbook) - The Carolina Panthers announced that they have brought back cornerback Reggie Howard on a one-year deal. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Howard had spent four seasons in Carolina, starting in Super Bowl XXXVIII, but signed a six-year deal with Miami following the 2003 season. However, the Dolphins waived him in 2005 opening the door for his return to Carolina. He made 38 tackles in 15 games before being released last season. Howard has 207 tackles, including a career-high 75 in 2002, six interceptions and 4 1/2 sacks in six years. According to a report in the Charlotte Observer, the team also has re-signed punter Jason Baker to a two-year deal. Baker's agent, Frank Murtha, told the newspaper the deal was worth about $1.8 million. Baker, who was acquired in a trade with Denver last May for Todd Sauerbrun, set a team record with a 38.9-yard punting average last season. Baker has had just one punt blocked in his career and holds a 34.6-yards per punt net average.
