Ft. Myers, FL (My Sportsbook) - Baltimore Orioles' designated hitter David Segui is expected to miss seven weeks due to a broken thumb. Segui was injured during fielding practice before an exhibition game against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday. A routine ground ball hit Segui's right thumb and he was subsequently scratched from the lineup for what was thought to be a bruise. X-rays later revealed the fracture. The 36 year-old Segui has played in parts of 13 seasons in the majors, including stints with the New York Mets, Montreal Expos, Seattle Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays, Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers. A career .292 hitter, the versatile Segui has played in the outfield and at first base while acting as an on-and-off DH for his entire career. He has hit 133 home runs and has driven in 652 runs. The past two seasons have seen Segui on the disabled list more often than not, playing a total of 108 games. In 2002, he hit two home runs and had 16 RBI in just 26 games.
