Houston Rockets try to capture their fourth straight win on Friday when they host the
Chicago Bulls at the Compaq Center.
Houston's recent winning streak has moved it to just one-half game behind the Phoenix Suns for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West.
The Rockets are coming off a 118-114 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday. Glen Rice and Steve Francis each netted 25 points to lead the Rockets.
Cuttino Mobley chipped in 23 points and Maurice Taylor added 18 in the win. Yao Ming had 10 points and 10 boards for Houston.
The Rockets were aided by a questionable call with Andre Miller on the free throw line and a chance to win the game for Los Angeles with 1.1 seconds to play in regulation. Miller went to the line and hit the first free throw, but the referee disallowed the basket after ruling Miller had crossed the line before the ball hit the rim. Miller then missed the second and the game was headed to overtime. headed to overtime.
Houston took advantage in the extra session and went on to the win.
The Rockets have won three of their last four home games and are 22-11 in their building this season. Houston is 14-11 against the Eastern Conference.
The Bulls lost for the fifth time in seven games on Wednesday by suffering a 124-95 setback to the Grizzlies in Memphis.
Eddy Curry scored 21 and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Chicago. Donyell Marshall chipped in 16 points and Tyson Chandler added 13 for the Bulls, who were coming off a 116-99 pounding of the Lakers Tuesday night.
Jalen Rose and Jay Williams finished with 12 points apiece for Chicago, which has lost four straight and 12 of its last 13 on the road.
The Bulls are just 3-31 overall away from home this season and 8-15 against the Western Conference.
This is the final meeting between the Bulls and Rockets this season. These teams met back on January 26 in Chicago, with the Bulls claiming a 100-98 victory. Chicago will try to win the season series with Houston for the second straight year.
