Charlotte, NC (My Sportsbook) - Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson underwent successful quadruple heart bypass surgery on Thursday at Carolinas Medical Center. He is expected to remain hospitalized for another week. Richardson had the procedure done after a catheterization revealed he had an irregular heartbeat. Dr. Mark Stiegel performed the three-hour surgery and expects a full recovery. "The surgery is our most common operation and went as we had hoped with no complications," said Stiegel. "He has a very strong heart and should have a full and complete recovery, and his energy level should return to normal in four to six weeks." The 66-year-old Richardson was admitted into the hospital on Friday, October 4, 2002 with an irregular heartbeat and an intestinal infection. He is responsible for bringing the franchise to Carolina and is one of the NFL's more active owners as he is the chairman of the league's stadium committee.
