Pittsburgh, PA (My Sportsbook) - A Keystone State battle will take place on Saturday afternoon when the
Philadelphia Flyers head West to skate with the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Igloo.
Philadelphia put an end to its three-game losing streak on Thursday with a 5-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. The victory helped the Flyers move to within just two points of the New Jersey Devils for first place in the Atlantic Division. Philadelphia currently resides in the fourth slot overall, four points ahead of fifth place Toronto.
The Flyers got a much-needed lift on Thursday as John LeClair returned to the ice after missing 47 games due to shoulder surgery. LeClair joined newly acquired Tony Amonte in the lineup. Amonte was acquired just prior to the deadline from the Phoenix Coyotes.
Amonte wasted no time making his presence felt, tallying a goal and an assist in the win. LeClair also scored a goal in his return, while Keith Primeau and Eric Desjardins each added a goal and an assist for Philadelphia.
Roman Cechmanek needed to make just 12 saves for Philadelphia in the win. Cechmanek pushed his 2003-03 mark between the pipes to 27-15-8.
The Flyers are embarking on a three-game road trip that will include contests at New Jersey and Buffalo. Philadelphia is 19-9-4-2 on foreign ice this season.
Pittsburgh has come apart down the stretch, posting just an 0-9-1 mark in its last 10 contests. The Penguins did manage to skate to a 2-2 tie with the Nashville Predators on Wednesday.
Guillaume Lefebvre and Brian Holzinger registered a goal apiece in the deadlock. Rico Fata chipped in with a pair of assists in the contest.
Pittsburgh has lost more home games (18) than any team in the league. The Penguins are just 14-18-2-2 at home this year.
The Penguins are 20-24-3-4 against the East and 5-9-0-2 within the Atlantic, while the Flyers are 25-13-8-3 versus the East and 6-5-2-1 against the division.
Pittsburgh won the only other meeting between these clubs, 7-2, on November 27. The home team is unbeaten (7-0-1) in the last eight meetings. Philadelphia is 2-1-1 in the last four meetings.
