Lubbock, TX (My Sportsbook) - Dave Winfield and Will Clark highlighted the first College Baseball Hall of Fame induction class announced on Wednesday. Winfield had a distinguished college career at the University of Minnesota while Clark played at Mississippi State. The duo is joined by Bob Horner (Arizona State), Robin Ventura (Oklahoma State) and Brooks Kieschnick (Texas) as ex-players in the inaugural class. Legendary coaches Bobby Winkles (Arizona State), Skip Bertman (Louisiana State), Ron Fraser (Miami-Florida), Cliff Gustafson (Texas) and Rod Dedeaux (Southern California) also will be inducted on July 3-4 in Lubbock. The announcement made by the College Baseball Foundation comes after the conclusion of an intensive voting process that began with nominations in February and two elimination ballots over the past month. "The excitement has been building within the college baseball community since this project was first announced two years ago," said college baseball foundation chairman/CEO John Askins. "Our entire community is thrilled to honor this outstanding group of individuals, whose accomplishments will withstand the test of time." Players are eligible for the ballot five years after their final collegiate campaign unless they are an active player or coach on a professional team. Coaches are eligible after ending their collegiate career, so long as they are not an active coach on a professional team. They also must have recorded 300 wins or have won at least 65 percent of their games. Both players and coaches are also evaluated for their citizenship both during and after their active careers. Candidates on the 2006 ballot that were not selected for induction this year will automatically appear on the ballot next year.
