Lake Buena Vista, FL (My Sportsbook) - Atlanta Braves pitcher Paul Byrd will likely start the season on the disabled list because of an ailing elbow. Byrd had a cortisone shot on Monday and will probably spend the first week of the regular season in Florida to work in minor league games. The righthander signed with Atlanta this off-season as a free agent after posting a record of 17-11 with a 3.90 earned run average in 33 starts last year for Kansas City. He led the American League with seven complete games and ranked in the top 10 in five other statistical categories. In 196 major league games, Byrd is 52-46 with 4.39 ERA. However, since the 2001 All-Star break, he has gone 22-15 with a 3.87 ERA.
