Vancouver, British Columbia (My Sportsbook) - The quest for first place in the Western Conference boils over tonight in Vancouver when the
Dallas Stars square off against the Canucks at GM Place.
With 100 points, the Pacific Division-champion Stars are tied atop the conference with the Detroit Red Wings. Vancouver, meanwhile, sits atop the Northwest Division and trails both the leaders by just a point.
Dallas comes into the contest on the heels of Sunday's 3-1 win over the St. Louis Blues. Brenden Morrow scored two goals and Marty Turco only needed to make 12 saves in his return to the lineup as the Stars clinched their fourth Pacific crown in the past five seasons.
Turco had missed the previous 18 games with an ankle injury and the Stars were 7-6-3-2 in his absence. Turco, who is 11-0-4 in his last 15 games, set a new Stars' franchise record for the longest unbeaten streak by a goaltender.
Sergei Zubov also scored for Dallas, which has won two of its last three games.
Dallas, which is unbeaten in Tuesday games (6-0-2) this season, will be starting a three-game road trip tonight and is 2-3-1-1 in its last seven on the road. Away from home this season the Stars are 16-12-9-1.
Vancouver, meanwhile, holds a five-point edge on the Colorado Avalanche in the Northwest and enters Tuesday's clash riding a two-game winning streak after Sunday's 6-0 rout of the Washington Capitals.
Todd Bertuzzi scored twice and Alex Auld posted his first career shutout to propel the Canucks, who notched a season-high five power-play goals in the contest.
Bertuzzi, who has 10 goals and seven assists in his last nine games, leads the NHL with 45 markers, one more than teammate Markus Naslund.
Auld, in only his sixth career game, stopped all 14 shots he faced in place of Dan Cloutier, who is nursing a sore knee and will likely miss tonight's game. Naslund had a goal and an assist for the Canucks, who won for the third time in four games. With the two points Naslund moved past Boston's Joe Thornton for the league lead in points with 96.
Vancouver is 8-2-3 in its last 13 home games and 21-11-6 at home on the season.
Dallas, which has taken two of the three meetings this season from the Canucks, has won four straight in Vancouver. The road team in this series has won seven of the last eight matchups.
