Padres claim Merloni off waivers

Peoria, AZ (My Sportsbook) - The San Diego Padres claimed infielder Lou Merloni off waivers Tuesday.

Merloni, who was let go by Boston, hit .271 in parts of four seasons with the Red Sox. In 2000, he played in Japan.

The utility infielder batted .247 in 84 games last season with the Boston in 2002. The season before he batted .267 with 10 doubles and three home runs in 52 games.
