Port St. Lucie, FL (My Sportsbook) - The New York Mets released pitcher Donovan Osborne on Tuesday. The lefthander was signed by New York to a minor league contract in February. The 33-year-old Osborne posted an 0-1 record with a 6.19 ERA in 11 relief appearances for the Cubs last season. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list May 9 with a right side muscle strain and sat out the remainder of the year. Chicago released him on September 2. The southpaw has a career mark of 47-46 with a 3.96 ERA over 154 major league contests. Meanwhile, infielders Russ Johnson and Jorge Velandia and pitcher Aaron Heilman were sent to the minors for re-assignment and catcher Jason Phillips was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. Johnson played in 45 games for Tampa Bay in 2002 and batted .216 with one homer and 12 RBI.
