Surprise, AZ (My Sportsbook) - Kansas City Royals centerfielder Carlos Beltran has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained oblique muscle and will likely miss the team's season opener. The Royals will open the season at home on Monday against the Chicago White Sox. Beltran is expected to travel to Kansas City with the team for the season opener before returning to Arizona for extended spring training. Beltran, one of the most dangerous hitters in the Kansas City lineup, hit .273 with 44 doubles, 29 homers and 105 RBI in 2002. He also added 35 stolen bases. The switch-hitter has a lifetime .283 average with 123 doubles, 82 homers and 365 RBI over five major-league seasons with the Royals. Also, the Royals purchased the contracts of infielder Mendy Lopez and catcher Mike DiFelice from Triple-A Omaha, while reassigning righthander James Baldwin and catcher Juan Brito to the minor-league camp.
