Jupiter, FL (My Sportsbook) - The Florida Marlins have released veteran outfielder Al Martin. The Marlins had signed the 35-year-old Martin to a minor-league contract last month. The St. Louis Cardinals signed Martin to a similar deal in February 2002, but he sat out the entire season after recovering from elbow surgery. The left-handed hitting Martin last played in the majors with Seattle in 2001, batting .240 with seven home runs and 42 RBIs. He is a 10-year veteran who owns a career .278 average with 129 home runs and 459 RBI. Martin played the first eight years of his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
