Nuremberg, Germany (My Sportsbook) - After being declared fit to play earlier in the day, England striker Wayne Rooney officially became a part of the World Cup, making his first appearance in the 57th minute in the team's 2-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago. Prior to kickoff, Rooney was given one last exam before the team's second World Cup match. According to a statement released on the English Football Association website, Professor Angus Wallace, an expert in sports medicine, and Professor Chris Moran, a fracture management specialist watched Rooney train and studied video footage of the striker over the last two days. "Due to his positive attitude and approach and the care he has received, Wayne has made a more rapid recovery than initially anticipated. The injury has healed and we are satisfied that he is as fit as he can be," the statement said. Rooney returned to training with England just two days before the start to the World Cup after a CT scan revealed the striker had recovered from a fractured metatarsal in his right foot. Rooney was on the sideline for England's first World Cup match against Paraguay. England will finish its group stage schedule against Sweden in Cologne on June 20.
