Columbus, OH (My Sportsbook) - The Columbus Blue Jackets will try and put the brakes on a three-game losing streak when they kick off a four-game homestand against the
Florida Panthers Saturday at Nationwide Arena.
After winning their season-opener against the Blackhawks, the Blue Jackets have struggled in losses to New Jersey, Phoenix, and most recently a 7-1 shellacking at the hands of the under-manned St. Louis Blues on Thursday.
Jaroslav Spacek scored the only goal for Columbus with 12 seconds remaining in the game, as the Blue Jackets failed to capitalize against a St. Louis team that was without its two top goaltenders and then lost its third netminder to another injury early in the game.
Marc Denis stopped only seven of the 11 shots he faced before being pulled in the second. Jean-Francois Labbe came off the bench and made 19 saves on 22 shots for Columbus, which allowed four power-play goals and has allowed eight goals when down a man on the season.
The Florida Panthers have been equally unimpressive to start the season and have dropped three of four to start the year, including back-to-back losses in which they have been outscored by a 8-2 margin.
In its most recent setback, Florida was drubbed by the Chicago Blackhawks, 4-1, on Thursday.
Kristian Huselius, in his season-debut after recovering from a knee injury, scored for the Panthers, who failed to cash in on five chances with the extra skater.
On his first shot of the season, 54 seconds into the second period, Huselius scored with a wrister to the top right corner of the net on a 2-on-1 break.
However, the Blackhawks scored four unanswered goals to erase the early deficit and cruise to the victory.
Roberto Luongo made 38 saves for Florida, which held the Blackhawks to just one goal on 12 power-play opportunities.
Columbus has not scored a goal in its two losses to Florida and has been outscored 11-7 in the three meetings.
