St. Louis, MO (My Sportsbook) - The
St. Louis Blues hope to push their unbeaten string to four games when they conclude their season-opening five- game homestand against the
Dallas Stars on Saturday.
St. Louis, which is currently 2-1-1 at the Savvis Center, is coming off back- to-back wins, including a 7-1 rout of the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday.
Keith Tkachuk scored twice and Eric Boguniecki tallied the first two goals of his career, and rookie netminders Reinhard Divis and Curtis Sanford came within 12 seconds of a combined shutout for St. Louis, which embarks on a brief two-game road trip following the game.
Divis, who picked up his first NHL win in his first career start against Carolina on Tuesday, left the game late in the opening period with a strained groin. The Austrian goaltender had been forced into action because of injuries to Brent Johnson and Fred Brathwaite, so the Blues were forced to throw the 23-year-old Sanford into the fray for the final two periods.
Sanford turned away 12 shots in relief and Divis stopped all 10 attempts he faced before leaving. Sanford is expected to get his first NHL start between the pipes tonight.
Petr Cajanek, Mike Eastwood and Jamal Mayers also registered goals for the Blues in the victory. Eastwood netted his first power play tally since December 21, 1999.
The Stars enter the contest on the heels of their first loss of the season, a 3-1 setback to the Minnesota Wild.
Trailing by a goal, Ulf Dahlen scored to pull Dallas within a goal with 4:09 left in the game. Sergei Zubov held the puck at the blue line and found Dahlen streaking toward the net. Dahlen received the pass, cut to the slot and put the puck past the goaltender for his second goal of the season.
Dallas nearly tied the contest with just over a minute left, but Minnesota goaltender Manny Fernandez used his pad to stop Mike Modano, who tried to flip the puck from the side of the net. Darryl Sydor, who was robbed by Fernandez early in the game, clanged a shot off the post in the waning minutes as well
Minnesota then sealed the win with an empty-netter.
Marty Turco made 21 saves for the Stars, who were 1-for-5 on the power play and are 5-for-20 on the young season.
Tonight's contest will also see the return of forward Scott Young to St. Louis. Young played the last four seasons with Blues before leaving this summer as a free agent.
Five of the last seven meetings in this series have gone into overtime. However Dallas is winless (0-3-1) in its last four at St. Louis and 1-6-2 in its last nine at Savvis Center.
