Omaha, NE (My Sportsbook) - Bill Rowe's three-run homer capped a seven-run bottom of the fourth inning, as Oregon State rallied for an 11-7 victory over North Carolina, forcing a deciding Game 3 of the College World Series finals at Rosenblatt Stadium.
North Carolina squeaked out a 4-3 victory Saturday night and appeared headed to its first ever national baseball title after surging to a 5-0 lead on Sunday.
However, the Beavers sent 10 men to the plate in their half of the fourth to assume a 7-5 lead. They added four runs in the sixth to ensure a final contest Monday night.
Rowe drove in four runs, while Darwin Barney had three hits, an RBI and scored twice for Oregon State, which is appearing in its first CWS finals. Mitch Canham and John Wallace each had three hits and scored once for the Beavers, while Shea McFeely had a two-run double during the fourth-inning uprising for Oregon State.
Tim Federowicz went 4-for-4 with a two-run homer and drove in four runs for North Carolina. His blast just inside the left-field pole in the seventh inning accounted for the final margin.
Closer Kevin Gunderson threw 5 1/3 innings to get the victory, allowing four hits and two runs.
"Last night when we were up here, we didn't say a whole lot, but one of the things we did say is that we would come out and play hard and play with pride," Oregon State head coach Pat Casey said. "That's something I can guarantee Oregon State will always do. You saw a bunch of guys play with heart, guts and determination on the field at Rosenblatt. We were down and brought in our closer in the fifth inning. It was a heck of a battle for us."
Matt Danford was saddled with the defeat, surrendering four hits and six runs in 2 1/3 innings.
Matt Spencer singled to right field to drive in Federowicz in the second inning and the Tar Heels scored three times in the third to assume a 4-0 advantage. Reid Fronk doubled with one out and scored on a Chad Flack base hit in the third. Jay Cox doubled and Federowicz followed with another two-base hit to right field to widen the margin.
Fronk singled up the middle to drive in Matt Spencer in the top of the fourth, but Oregon State rallied in the bottom of the inning against Robert Woodard and Danford.
"We were feeling pretty frustrated," Barney said. "It's not the way we wanted to start the day. We wanted to come out with vengeance. We didn't come out with the plan we wanted to. One spark can change the attitude of the team."
Tyler Graham was hit by a pitch and Wallace singled. Graham stole third and Chris Kunda walked to load the bases. McFeely doubled to left field, ending Woodard's night.
Barney singled in another run for a 5-3 contest and McFeely scored on a wild pitch. After a walk to Mitch Canham and a strikeout of Cole Gillespie, Rowe belted a ball over the wall in right field on a 2-0 pitch for the 7-5 lead.
"My slider just came out of my hand too early and hit Graham," Woodard said. "I didn't show the mental toughness that I usually have. I'm just very disappointed."
Rowe singled in a run during the sixth before Federowicz homered in the seventh. The Tar Heels failed to get a hit the final two innings.
North Carolina is trying to become the first ACC national champion since Wake Forest claimed the crown in 1955.
Oregon State is going for only its second NCAA Division I national championship in school history. Oregon Statel's other national title was the 1961 Cross Country championship.
