Cincinnati, OH (My Sportsbook) - Cincinnati Reds outfielder Ken Griffey Jr., who left Saturday's game against the Chicago Cubs after suffering a dislocated right shoulder, is expected to be sidelined for six-to-ten weeks. He was injured while trying to make a catch in the top of the eighth inning at the Great American Ballpark. The Cubs had the bases loaded when Paul Bako hit a drive to the warning track in left-center field. Griffey raced back and attempted to make a diving catch. He came down hard on the dirt warning track and remained on the ground, writhing in pain. Griffey was eventually helped to his feet and taken off the field through a nearby gate in the outfield. He was taken to a local hospital for an MRI exam. Bako ended up with a three-run triple on the play. The Cubs won the contest, 9-7. Griffey, who was 1-for-4 with a double before leaving the game, is batting .263 with a home run and an RBI on the young season. The 33-year-old Griffey, in his fourth year with the Reds, has been plagued by injuries during his tenure in Cincinnati. He was hindered by a hamstring injury in 2000 and 2001, and spent two different stints on the disabled list last year with knee and hamstring problems. Griffey also was bothered by a sore left hip and sore left quadriceps muscle in August and September of last season. It marked the second consecutive year that Griffey failed to make it through the first week of the season without injury. He tore a tendon in his right knee in Cincinnati's sixth game of the 2002 season. Griffey has hit just 31 home runs in 186 games since the start of the 2001 campaign.
