(My Sportsbook) - With the playoffs just two weeks away, Sacramento is picking up steam at the right time.
The Kings, Pacific Division champs for the second straight season, have won 10 of their last 11 games and 20 of their past 24 overall. At 56-22, Sacramento holds the second seed in the West and will likely finish in that spot, as it trails the Dallas Mavericks by two games for the conference's top position.
The Kings are fresh off a 5-1 East Coast road trip, which further proved their capabilities away from ARCO Arena. Sacramento won the final four games of the swing and the only setback of the stretch came against the Detroit Pistons on March 30.
Sacramento was in danger of falling to 2-2 on its trip Friday in Boston despite leading by as much as 19 in the contest.
With 31.1 seconds to play in the fourth quarter, Paul Pierce hit a pair of free throws to give the Celtics a 91-90 edge before Chris Webber missed two foul shots with 14 seconds left.
J.R. Bremer made 1-of-2 from the stripe with 11 seconds to go to give Boston a two-point lead. After a timeout, the Kings inbounded the ball to Mike Bibby. Webber came off a pick, accepted the pass from Bibby and buried a three from the top of the arc with 4.6 seconds left to give the Kings a 93-92 lead. Pierce missed a 12-foot jumper just before the buzzer and Sacramento escaped with the victory.
"Coach drew up the play and I told Mike I wanted to shoot the three," said Webber, who hit just his fifth three-pointer of the season. "He's my boy and he came off the pick and threw it back to me and trusted me. Even more than making it, is the fact that he would trust me."
The Kings then had to regroup for a tough matchup against the physical Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday. Sacramento had a surprisingly easy time with the Sixers, rolling to a 97-81 victory at the First Union Center.
The Kings led by as much as 21 in the contest and held the Sixers to just 33 percent shooting. Webber just missed a triple-double, collecting 21 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.
"We haven't played that well the whole trip," Webber said. "We are glad that we stayed consistent and played that well. Especially being so tired, this is a long road trip. The only thing we really regret is that Detroit loss. We knew 6-0 was possible but we regret losing that game against Detroit, but tonight was a great effort."
With Sunday's victory, Sacramento coach Rick Adelman became the 18th coach in NBA history to record 600 career wins. Adelman is a strong candidate for Coach of the Year honors considering the Kings' success this year despite a rash of injuries.
Sacramento has just four games left on its regular-season schedule, with three of the contests being played at ARCO Arena.
