Dallas, TX (My Sportsbook) - The
Dallas Stars will hope to get back on the winning track this evening when they welcome the Washington Capitals to the American Airlines Center.
Dallas, which opened the year 3-0-1, has dropped two straight, most recently a 5-3 setback to the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.
Brenden Morrow, Pierre Turgeon and Ulf Dahlen scored for the Stars, who blew a 3-1 late second period lead thanks in part to seven penalties in the final 20 minutes. Marty Turco stopped 22 shots in the loss.
Dallas allowed three goals on 13 chances to the Blues with the extra skater. Four of the seven St. Louis power plays in the third period were 5-on-3's. The Stars were down two men for four consecutive minutes.
The Stars have fared well against the Capitals though, with an 8-2-1 record in the last 11 meetings.
Washington enters the tilt on the heels of its first loss of the season, a 3-1 loss in Philadelphia.
Olaf Kolzig stopped 30 shots for the Capitals, who are 3-1 on the season. Robert Lang scored the lone goal for Washington, which failed to match the franchise's best start set in 1997-98, when it started the season at 4-0.
Washington took a 1-0 lead on the power play 4:16 into the contest. With a two-man advantage, Peter Bondra wristed a shot on Philadelphia netminder Robert Esche from the left of the netminder. Esche made a pad save and then made a save off a Kip Miller shot from in close. However, the rebound off the second save kicked out to Lang, who slapped the puck into the open right side of the net from the bottom of the left faceoff circle.
The Flyers then scored three unanswered goals to cruise to victory.
Washington, which is in the midst of an 18-day, eight-game road trip, did not get a point from superstar Jaromir Jagr for the first time this season.
The Capitals are 1-3-1 in the last five against Dallas.
