Scottsdale, AZ (My Sportsbook) - The Phoenix Coyotes signed goaltender Sean Burke to a multi-year extension on Friday. Financial terms of the contract were not announced. The 35-year-old Burke set career highs with 33 wins, a 2.29 goals against average and five shutouts last season. He finished last year as a finalist for both the Vezina Trophy, which is awarded to the NHL's outstanding goaltender, and the Lester B. Pearson Award, which goes to the NHL's most outstanding player as voted by the players. Burke, who ranked fifth in the NHL with a .920 save percentage, also tied the Coyotes' all-time franchise record for wins (33) in a single season and became only the fourth goaltender in franchise history to reach the 30-win plateau. The Coyotes acquired Burke in November 1999 from the Florida Panthers along with a fifth round draft choice in 2000 in exchange for Mikhail Shtalenkov and a fourth round draft choice in 2000. Burke has played in 693 career games with a record of 276-295-92, a 3.00 GAA and .901 save percentage in 14 NHL seasons with New Jersey, Hartford/Carolina, Vancouver, Philadelphia, Florida and Phoenix.
