Phoenix, AZ (My Sportsbook) - The
San Antonio Spurs try to defend the top seed in the Western Conference with their 12th-straight win when they travel to Phoenix to take on the Suns at America West Arena.
San Antonio has a 1 1/2 game lead on the Dallas Mavericks for both the Midwest Division and the top seed in the Western Conference. The Pacific Division-leading Sacramento Kings are two games behind the Spurs for the top spot in the West.
The Spurs are coming off a 94-86 win over the Seattle SuperSonics. Malik Rose finished with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Tim Duncan added 18 points and 15 boards.
"If it's a win, we'll take it," Tony Parker said. "This one was ugly in the second half."
San Antonio is 25-13 on the road and 25-14 within the Western Conference.
The Spurs played without Stephen Jackson, who was bothered by a sore hip. He is questionable for tonight's action.
Phoenix currently owns the eighth and final playoff berth in the Western Conference and will clinch a postseason berth with a win in either of its last three games, or a loss by the Houston Rockets in any of their last three games. The Suns are coming off a 117-101 victory over the Golden State Warriors, their third straight win.
Penny Hardaway scored a season-high 24 points, Shawn Marion finished with 24, rookie Amare Stoudemire added 21 points and 10 boards, while Stephon Marbury tallied 15 points and 10 assists.
"It's just so funny that at the end of the season my body starts to feel great," said Hardaway, who missed 24 games after having right thumb surgery January 11. "I know the doctors all said it takes a couple of years to recover, and every time I had surgery it seemed like I'd fall back.
"But hopefully I'm past that phase, and the team is playing good at the right time."
The Suns are 29-11 at home and have a 25-24 mark within the Western Conference.
Phoenix has won two of its three games against San Antonio this season.
