Houston, TX (My Sportsbook) - Two teams with their bags packed for the summer square off tonight, when the
Memphis Grizzlies travel to Houston to take on the Rockets at Compaq Center.
Memphis has dropped 10 of its last 13 games and just completed a 2-1 homestand with a 110-107 double-overtime setback to the Detroit Pistons on Sunday. Pau Gasol scored 24 points and Shane Battier added 22 for the Grizzlies.
"We had the game won in the fourth quarter," Memphis coach Hubie Brown said. "We missed four critical foul shots, and we had critical turnovers in the fourth and in the overtime. You can't turn it over against a team that is fighting for the top spot in the East."
The Grizzlies have lost three straight road games and are just 8-32 away from home this season.
All that remains for the Rockets is to ensure they will finish over .500 for the third time in five years.
Houston was eliminated from the postseason by the Phoenix Suns, but can finish no worse than .500. Houston can finish over .500 for the first time since 2000-01 with a win in either of its remaining two contests.
Houston snapped a two-game skid with a 101-86 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics here on Saturday. Cuttino Mobley and Steve Francis each had 17 points for the Rockets.
The two games before the clash with Seattle, the Rockets shot a combined 30 percent from the floor. That's pretty much when the Rockets' playoff hopes went up in smoke.
"Those two games, I don't know what was on top of our heads, a black cloud or something," Mobley said. "But tonight, we got out there and took care of business."
Houston has won three of its last four games at Compaq Center and has a 27-13 home record this season.
The Rockets have won two of three games against the Grizzlies this season and have a 23-8 edge in the all-time series.
