Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - The career of arguably the greatest player in the history of the sport comes to a close on Wednesday when Michael Jordan and his
Washington Wizards wrap up their season against the
Philadelphia 76ers at the First Union Center.
The 40-year-old Jordan is seemingly set to call it a career for good after a two-year stint with Washington that produced no playoff berths. He had retired as a player on two previous occasions while with the Chicago Bulls.
Jordan's accomplishments are virtually endless. He won six NBA titles (1991-93, '96-98) with the Bulls, being named series MVP in each Finals. He has also collected five regular season MVP awards and will retire with the highest all-time scoring average.
The New York Knicks spoiled Jordan's home finale on Monday, posting a 93-79 victory over the Wizards.
Jordan scored 21 points on 9-of-22 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. Larry Hughes contributed 16 points and Kwame Brown had 12 for Washington, which has lost two straight contests.
Wizards guard Jerry Stackhouse (knee) left the game in the second quarter and did not return. He is questionable for Wednesday's game.
Washington has won three straight road games and is 14-26 away from home this season. The Wizards are 26-27 against the Eastern Conference, including 11-12 within the Atlantic Division.
The Sixers fell out of the running for the Atlantic Division crown on Tuesday, as they suffered a 115-106 defeat to the Chicago Bulls. The New Jersey Nets were able to clinch the Atlantic title with Philly's loss.
Allen Iverson poured in 42 points, grabbed eight boards and handed out six assists for the Sixers, who fell into the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race with their third straight defeat. The Pacers and the Sixers actually hold identical records with one game left for each, but Indiana owns the edge due to a tie-breaker.
Philadelphia is also in danger of losing home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs, as the New Orleans Hornets trail the Sixers by just one game and hold the tie-breaker with Philly. New Orleans hosts the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.
The Sixers have dropped five of their last seven home games and are 24-16 in their building this season. Philly is 34-19 against the Eastern Conference, with a 16-7 mark within the Atlantic.
The Sixers have won all three previous meetings with the Wizards this season and will go for the season sweep on Wednesday.
Philly has won four straight encounters overall and five of the last six. The Wizards have dropped two straight and five of their last six in Philadelphia.
