Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - The
Philadelphia 76ers look to wrap up their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series with the
New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday when the teams battle in Game 5 at the First Union Center.
The Sixers hold a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series and can advance to the second round for the first time since 2001 with a win Wednesday. A victory would also put Philadelphia in the Eastern Conference semifinals for the fourth time in five years.
Philly took command of the series on Monday in Game 4. Allen Iverson scored 22 points and Eric Snow added 17 with 12 assists and five steals to lead the Sixers to a 96-87 victory over the Hornets at New Orleans Arena.
"In Game 3 we didn't match their intensity, but tonight we matched their effort," said Sixers coach Larry Brown. "Tonight Snow had as good a game as you can have."
Iverson ended 9-of-28 from the field, including 3-of-7 from three-point range. The All-Star guard has shot 32-of-84 from the field in the last three games after going 21-of-32 for 55 points in Game 1.
Keith Van Horn contributed 13 points with seven rebounds for the Sixers. Kenny Thomas, Derrick Coleman and Aaron McKie added 11 points apiece for Philadelphia, which snapped a five-game playoff road losing streak. Thomas also had a team-high eight rebounds.
Baron Davis scored a playoff career-high 34 points and dished out seven assists for the Hornets, who had won their previous five games at home including Game 3. Davis, who returned for Game 3 after missing Game 2 with an injury to his left knee, hit 12-of-19 shots from the field, including 5-of-8 from three point range.
Courtney Alexander finished with a playoff career-high 12 points for the Hornets, who committed 20 turnovers that led to 23 Sixer points. David Wesley also netted 12 points and P.J. Brown scored 11 points and grabbed a game-high nine boards in defeat.
New Orleans forward Jamal Mashburn missed his second straight game with a bone chip fracture and a dislocation in his right middle finger, which he suffered in Game 2. The injury is to the 31-year-old's shooting hand.
Reports have surfaced that Mashburn will likely miss the rest of the series because of the injury. The forward, who had played in all 82 regular season games, averaged 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists in the first two games of the set.
The Sixers have won their last four postseason home games.
