Tampa Bay quarterback Chris Simms had his spleen removed after taking several hard hits in Sunday's 26-24 loss to Carolina and was resting comfortably in a hospital, according to a television report. Simms had a blood transfusion as part of his treatment and was expected to be hospitalized for several days, Peter King said on NBC's Sunday Night Football, citing a conversation he had with Simms' mother, Diana Simms. ... Cleveland running back Reuben Droughns was inactive against Baltimore because of a shoulder injury. ... Philadelphia receiver Donte' Stallworth was a late scratch from the Eagles' lineup against San Francisco with a hamstring injury. ... San Francisco running back Frank Gore strained his abdomen and rookie tight end Vernon Davis cracked a bone in his leg on the same wacky play - a 98-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Philadelphia's Mike Patterson - during the 49ers' 38-24 loss to Philadelphia.
