Dallas, TX (My Sportsbook) - The
Dallas Mavericks are trying to avoid a very dubious distinction when they host the Portland Trail Blazers this afternoon in Game 7 of their first round series.
No team in NBA history has ever blown a 3-0 lead in a best-of-seven series, and the Mavs are dangerously close to doing just that. Dallas had a 3-0 lead in this series, and now it needs to win Game 7 at home to advance past the sixth-seeded Blazers.
Portland was dominant in Game 6 and posted a 125-103. Zach Randolph finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Ruben Patterson added 20 points. Bonzi Wells scored 18 points, Arvydas Sabonis came off the bench with 16 and Damon Stoudamire added 14 to the win.
The Trail Blazers enjoyed a 45-32 edge on the glass and shot a blistering 59 percent from the floor.
Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki was held to just four points in Game 6.
"For me, I think we just need to believe,'' said Nowitzki, who has four double-doubles in the series. "We go in Sunday and we believe in ourselves and we battle with our backs against the wall. There is no question in my mind we can win that game.''
Steve Nash had 21 points and six assists for the Mavericks.
Dallas led most of the regular season, before being past in the Midwest Division by the San Antonio Spurs. The Mavs held on to the three seed, and now find the pressure squarely on their shoulders in this critical Game 7.
Portland has now won three straight on the heels of a 10-game postseason losing streak. The Blazers are just the third team to force a Game 7 after trailing 0-3. The 1951 New York Knicks and the Denver Nuggets in 1994 are the only other teams to turn the trick. The Rochester Royals and Utah Jazz won those series.
The winner of today's game takes on the Sacramento Kings in the second round.
