New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Oakland Athletics pitcher Barry Zito and Texas Rangers outfielder Juan Gonzalez were named American League Co-Players of the Week for the period ending May 4th. Zito, last year's AL Cy Young Award winner, finished the week 2-0 with a miniscule 0.60 ERA, scattering just eight hits over 15 innings as the A's won four of their six road games. Most impressive was his performance against Roger Clemens and the New York Yankees on Sunday, during which the left-hander pitched eight scoreless innings in Oakland's 2-0 victory. Gonzalez, who leads the majors with 11 home runs, blasted five of those 11 during the week to earn his fifth-career weekly award. He went 9-for-25 with 10 RBI and five runs scored, belting all five homers and driving in all 10 runs during a three-game set against Toronto at SkyDome. Other candidates for the award were Gonzalez's teammate, Carl Everett, Boston's Trot Nixon, Seattle's Mike Cameron, Tampa Bay's Aubrey Huff, Toronto's Frank Catalanotto and Vernon Wells, Seattle pitcher Gil Meche, Boston hurler Pedro Martinez and the Devil Rays' Joe Kennedy.
