Miami, FL (My Sportsbook) - Florida Marlins second baseman Luis Castillo will have surgery on Wednesday to repair a torn labrum in his right hip. The injury was discovered during a routine postseason physical. The procedure will be performed in Pittsburgh by Dr. Mark Philippon. Castillo, 27, set a franchise mark last season with 185 hits and led the major leagues with 48 stolen bases. The switch-hitting Castillo also put together a team-record 35-game hitting streak. The 35-game streak was the longest in the majors since Paul Molitor hit in 39 straight games for Milwaukee during the 1987 season. A native of the Dominican Republic, Castillo also garnered the longest streak among all Latin players, topping the 34-game stretch set in 1987 by Benito Santiago with the San Diego Padres. The Marlins expect Castillo to be fully recovered for the start of spring training.
