East Rutherford, NJ (My Sportsbook) - The New Jersey Nets announced on Tuesday that point guard Chris Childs has been suspended indefinitely for failure to be in playing shape. Childs has not seen action in any of the Nets' preseason games this year. The 34-year-old Childs signed a two-year deal with the team on August 1 to serve as Jason Kidd's backup. Childs averaged 4.1 points and 22.8 minutes per game over 69 contests with the Toronto Raptors last season. Childs broke into the NBA with the Nets in the 1994-95 season, after he was named CBA Player of the Year in 1994 while playing for the Quad City Thunder. For his career, Childs has averaged 7.0 points and 4.9 assists per game. He has appeared in 529 NBA games and set career highs in games played (78), assists (7.0) and points per game (12.8) in the 1995-96 season with the Nets. He also spent four-and-a-half seasons with the New York Knicks.
