East Rutherford, NJ (My Sportsbook) - New York Giants linebacker LaVar Arrington was placed on the injured reserve on Thursday after tearing his right Achilles tendon in the second quarter of the team's 36-22 win over Dallas on Monday night. The three-time Pro Bowl linebacker will need surgery and will miss the rest of the Giants' season. The former Penn State star signed a seven-year contract with New York in the offseason. Originally drafted with the second overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft, Arrington spent the first six years with the Washington Redskins, recording 467 tackles, 22.5 sacks, 11 forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries and three interceptions. Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said Carlos Emmons will start at strongside linebacker for Arrington. In other news, the Giants signed defensive end Adrian Awasom off the practice squad and added cornerback Dennis Davis to the practice squad in Awasom's place.
