Columbus, OH (My Sportsbook) - The lone National Hockey League team without a loss, the
Tampa Bay Lightning put their unbeaten streak on the line tonight when they visit the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena.
The 4-0-1 Lightning, enjoying the best start in franchise history, opened the season with three consecutive wins over Florida, Carolina and Atlanta, before skating to a 3-3 tie with Pittsburgh last Saturday. Tampa then got back on the winning track with a 4-2 victory over the host Rangers two nights later.
In New York, Martin St. Louis led the way with a pair of goals, and the Bolts received a total of three power-play tallies on the evening. Vaclav Prospal and Ben Clymer also scored, while Nikolai Khabibulin finished with 18 saves.
The victory continued the Lightning's torrid offensive start after finishing 28th in the NHL with 178 goals scored a season ago. John Tortorella's troops have already found the net a league-high 24 times in five games.
Tampa Bay actually trailed 2-1 in the early stages of the second period Monday, but the Rangers' lack of discipline turned the tide of the contest. A roughing call on Eric Lindros and holding the stick infraction by Bobby Holik led to scores from St. Louis and Prospal, including Prospal's marker, the eventual game-winner, with 5:04 remaining in the frame.
The Lightning's 3-for-8 showing on the power play puts them at 9-for-40 on the season -- a 22.5 percent clip.
Three Lightning players -- Prospal (3g, 5a), Dan Boyle (2g, 6a) and Brad Richards (1g, 4a) bring five-game points streaks into tonight's tilt.
Tampa Bay, which will be without center Vincent Lecavalier (Grade 1 MCL sprain) until at least next week, caps off a three-game road trek tonight. The Bolts welcome Washington to the St. Pete Times Forum on Friday.
Columbus, meanwhile, seeks its second straight victory after snapping a three- game losing streak with Saturday's 4-1 victory over Florida. Andrew Cassels paced the Jackets with a goal and two assists as they rebounded nicely from last Thursday's embarrassing 7-1 loss to St. Louis.
David Vyborny and Grant Marshall posted a goal and an assist apiece, and Geoff Sanderson added an empty-netter in the final minute. Marc Denis turned aside 26 shots in net after getting shelled for four tallies on 11 shots versus the Blues.
Defenseman Jaroslav Spacek assisted on Cassels' second-period tally and extended his points streak to five games (2g, 3a).
Tampa Bay defeated Columbus, 1-0, last December 6 and has won two straight meetings, both at home, after the teams' first-ever clash, a 3-1 Columbus win at Nationwide on January 21, 2001.
