London, England (My Sportsbook) - Charlton announced on Monday that manager Iain Dowie has left the team.
According the club's website, Dowie is out as Charlton manager after only 12 Premiership games. The team is expected to issue a full statement on Tuesday.
The 41-year-old Dowie becomes the first manager to be cut loose this season, and judging by the Addicks run of play so far this season, it is not hard to figure out why.
The team is currently stuck at the bottom of the EPL table with eight points. Charlton has won just two of its 12 league contests, and the club seems destined to battle relegation all season.
Dowie did lead Charlton into the Carling Cup quarterfinals last week, but that achievement is trumped by his lack of success in league competition.
The former Northern Ireland international joined Charlton this past summer from Crystal Palace, where he earned the south London club a promotion into the Premiership three years ago with a late-season rally. The team nearly sustained its EPL status, but a 2-2 draw with Charlton in the last match of the season narrowly dropped Palace into the relegation zone.
They nearly returned to the Premiership last season, but were defeated by Watford in the semifinals.
Dowie began his managerial career at Oldham, where he guided the club to a pair of Division Two playoff berths. However, financial trouble hit Oldham and forced the manager to move on, where he landed with Crystal Palace.
No announcement has been made as to who will take over as boss at Charlton, but it will most likely be a care-taker manager until a full-time replacement can be named, possibly at the end of the season.
