New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter returned to the lineup for the first time since opening day on Tuesday against Anaheim. Jeter batted second and finished 1-for-4 at the plate during the 10-3 loss. The All-Star shortstop was activated from the 15-day disabled list prior to the game and shortstop Erick Almonte, who filled in admirably in Jeter's absence, was optioned to Triple-A Columbus. The 28-year-old Jeter finished his five-game rehab assignment with the Double-A Trenton Thunder on Sunday with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate. Jeter was injured in the third inning of the season-opener at Toronto after a collision at third base with Blue Jays catcher Ken Huckaby. He was running on a pitch to Jason Giambi, who hit a tapper to the mound. With the Toronto infield in a shift toward the right side, Jeter raced toward the vacated third base and Huckaby, sprinting from home plate to cover the bag, took a throw from first on the run and crashed into Jeter, who was sliding head-first. Huckaby's shin guards slammed into Jeter's shoulder. Tests determined that surgery was not necessary and Jeter went to Tampa to rehab the injury before being assigned to Trenton. Last season, Jeter hit .297 with 18 homers and 75 RBI over 157 games. Yankees bench coach Don Zimmer also returned to the Yankees dugout on Tuesday. He was recently hospitalized with a stomach ailment.
