(My Sportsbook) - The Tigers were defeated last night in the first game of a three game-set at Comerica Park, 3-1, by the Oakland Athletics. After going on a four-game winning streak the Tigers have dropped three of their last four contest. Shane Halter finished 2-for-3 with a home run for Detroit, which has dropped three of its last four games. Mike Maroth (0-8) suffered the loss after throwing 6 1/3 innings. He allowed three runs on five hits to go along with two strikeouts and three walks. Tigers will send righthander Gary Knotts to the mound Wednesday. Knotts enters Wednesday's tilt on the heels of his first American League win. Knotts, who is 1-3 with a 4.83 ERA this year, yielded four runs on six hits over five innings to the Orioles on Wednesday. Knotts, who was 4-2 the past two seasons with the Florida Marlins, has never faced the A's in his career. The Detroit Tigers have showed signs of a major league club, posting a 5-7 record in the first half of May. The five wins in the first 13 days of May are more then the team had all of April.
