(My Sportsbook) - Hoping to get above .500 for the first time since the third game of the season, the
Los Angeles Dodgers try to break a two-game slide versus the
Atlanta Braves tonight at Dodger Stadium.
On Tuesday night Paul Lo Duca drove in the only run for Los Angeles, which has lost three of its last four games, in a 3-1 setback in the second of a three- game set with the Braves. Starter Kazuhisa Ishii hurled six frames and gave up one run on just three hits to go along with seven strikeouts and five walks.
Paul Quantrill suffered the loss for the Dodgers as he permitted two runs and four hits in two innings of relief.
Dave Roberts, who stole two bases in the game, has six in the last four games for LA.
Taking the hill tonight for the Dodgers will be the resurgent Kevin Brown. Brown has been terrific for the Dodgers in his last three starts, surrendering only three earned runs over 21 innings of work. The 38-year-old didn't record a decision in his last start, as he gave up six hits and one run over six innings against Montreal.
Brown has been very solid versus the Braves in his career, posting a 4-3 record with a razor thin 2.01 ERA. The McIntyre, GA native has allowed 72 hits and 20 earned runs over 89 1/3 innings of action versus Atlanta.
Although the Dodgers have dropped two in a row. they have actually gained some ground in the standings over the last week, thanks to a four-game losing skid by the Giants, and are now six games out of the top spot entering action on Wednesday.
While Los Angeles is batting a collective .252, its the pitching staff that has kept them so competitive, posting a league-low 3.02 ERA while holding opposing hitters to a combined .228 at the plate.
