Bronx, NY (My Sportsbook) - Garret Anderson went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Scott Spiezio added four hits, as the Anaheim Angels rallied for a 5-3 victory over the
New York Yankees in the second of a three-game series at Yankee Stadium.
Troy Glaus doubled in the go-ahead run and scored another in a three-run eighth for the Angels, who spotted the Yankees a 2-0 lead before coming back to earn their second straight win.
Anaheim, which posted a 10-3 triumph in Tuesday's opener behind two homers from Spiezio, has won six of its last eight and became only the second team to win a series from the Yankees this season.
Jorge Posada homered and Derek Jeter added two hits and two runs scored for New York, which matched a season high with its third straight loss and is just 3-7 in its last 10. Oakland had been the only team to win a series against the Yankees, taking two of three each of the past two weekends.
David Wells (5-1) suffered his first loss in eight starts this season. He threw shutout ball for five innings, but left after 7 2/3 frames. The lefthander was charged with five runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
Anderson started the go-ahead rally in the eighth with a one-out single and raced home from first when Glaus doubled to the gap in right-center field. Bengie Molina then flared an 0-2 pitch into right-center to score Glaus for a 4-2 lead and Spiezio greeted Antonio Osuna with an RBI single to cap the inning.
The rally made a winner of Francisco Rodriguez (3-1), who earned a pair of wins against the Yankees in last year's Division Series. The righthander worked 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits.
New York tried to rally against Rodriguez in the eighth. Jeter singled with one out and Bernie Williams drew a two-out walk, before Hideki Matsui drilled a single to left to score Jeter. Brendan Donnelly came on and struck out Posada to end the inning.
Troy Percival pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his fifth save.
The Angels trailed 2-0, but reached Wells for a run in the sixth when Anderson singled with one out, stole second and scored on a two-out bloop single to left-center by Shawn Wooten.
Spiezio led off the top of the seventh with a double and took third on a bunt by Benji Gil. David Eckstein then lifted a fly ball to left field and Spiezio raced home just under the tag of Posada, who took the relay throw from Derek Jeter behind home plate.
Wells pitched out of a first-inning jam. He hit Eckstein with a pitch to start the game and yielded a single to Eric Owens, but Tim Salmon popped up and Anderson lined into a double play.
The Yankees then scored once in the bottom of the first. Jeter singled with one out and took off on a pitch to Williams, who lined a shot to center field. Owens made a diving attempt, but could not come up with the ball and Jeter raced all the way home as the throw to the plate hit him during his feet-first slide.
Posada connected for his 10th homer of the season in the fourth, drilling a pitch over the wall in right-center field for a 2-0 lead.
Kevin Appier started for Anaheim and allowed two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and no walks in six innings.
