KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -Lawrence Tynes kicked a 34-yard field goal on Kansas City's first possession of the second half and added a 29-yarder early in the fourth to help the Chiefs take a 16-10 lead over the Denver Broncos on Thursday night.
Larry Johnson had a 21-yard run on the scoring drive that ended early in the fourth to push his rushing total to 108 yards, the seventh game this season he has rushed for more than 100 yards.
The Chiefs, who were 0-for-3 on third-down plays in the first half, converted two third-down plays on the 51-yard, 10-play drive to start the third quarter. Trent Green completed passes of seven yards to Tony Gonzalez and 31 yards to Samie Parker on third downs to keep the drive alive.
Tynes has kicked 17 field goals in 22 attempts this season.
The Broncos went 64 yards on 10 plays for their first touchdown on their initial possession of the second half. Stephen Alexander caught a 1-yard pass from Jake Plummer for the score.
Patrick Surtain intercepted Plummer's pass on the drive, but it was nullified by a Chiefs' penalty on Lenny Walls for illegal contact. On the next play after the penalty, Plummer completed a 36-yard pass to David Kircus to the Kanas City 24.
Larry Johnson scored on a 1-yard dive with 3:03 left in the second quarter to help the Chiefs take a 10-3 lead at the half.
Johnson has touchdowns in nine consecutive games, the second longest streak in Chiefs' history. Johnson, who has scored 13 touchdowns this season, rushed for 65 yards on 16 carries in the first half.
The 80-yard touchdown drive consumed 7:41 and took 13 plays. Tony Gonzalez caught a 10-yard pass on the drive to push his streak of games with at least one catch to 94, which is a franchise record. The drive also included a 15-yard run by backup running back Michael Bennett and a 14-yard reception by Samie Parker.
The drive was kept alive by a roughing-the-passer penalty on Broncos defensive end Ebenezer Ekuban. Chiefs quarterback Trent Green completed six of 10 passes for 61 yards in the first half.
The Broncos did not cross midfield until 1:30 left in the second quarter after Jake Plummer's 21-yard pass to Javon Walker at the Chiefs 47. Jason Elam kicked a 31-yard field goal with 14 seconds left in the half to make it 10-3.
Dante Hall returned the kickoff 60 yards after Elam's field goal, giving him 10,031 career yards on kickoff and punt returns. He became the sixth player in NFL history to pass the 10,000-yard milestone for combined kick returns.
Tynes kicked a 24-yard field goal on Kansas City's first possession and the Chiefs led the Broncos 3-0 after the first quarter.
Tynes' field goal was set up after Ty Law intercepted Plummer's pass at the Broncos 46 on the third play of the game. It was Plummer's 12th interception of the season. He entered the game with an 0-5 record with nine interceptions and four touchdowns at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Broncos beat the Chiefs 9-6 in overtime in Denver in the second game of the season.
It was the first Thanksgiving night game televised live on the NFL Network and inaugurated a new tradition with a Thanksgiving tripleheader.
