St. Petersburg, FL (My Sportsbook) - The Tampa Bay Devil Rays signed shortstop Julio Lugo to a contract on Thursday. Terms were not released. Lugo will report to the club on Friday when Tampa Bay begins a three-game series at Baltimore. The 27-year-old Lugo was released by Houston on May 9. He had started the majority of Astros games since May of 2000. This year, he batted .246 in 22 games for Houston with no homers and two RBI. Lugo was designated for assignment by the Astros on May 1, one day after he was arrested and charged with hitting his wife in the face and slamming her head on a car hood.
