Bronx, NY (My Sportsbook) - New York Yankees first baseman/designated hitter Nick Johnson has been placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a stress fracture in his right hand. Johnson was injured in Wednesday's game against Anaheim and is expected to be sidelined for 4-to-6 weeks. He said he was hurt during a swing in the ninth inning of the 5-3 loss. The Yankees scratched Johnson from Thursday's lineup and tests Friday revealed the severity of the injury. Johnson is hitting .308 with five home runs and 18 runs batted in this season. He also leads the American League in walks with 33 and was tied with Seattle's Edgar Martinez for the league lead in on-base percentage at .455. The 24-year-old Johnson has struggled the past few years with hand and wrist injuries. In 2000, Johnson missed the entire season with an injured right hand. Last season he was on the disabled list in August with a sprained left wrist and during spring training he was sidelined with a bad left thumb. The Yankees have not yet made a move to fill the roster spot.
