Denver, CO (My Sportsbook) - Montreal Expos starting pitcher Tony Armas Jr. will have shoulder surgery next week, the team announced Friday. Armas, who has been on the disabled list since April 21, is scheduled to have slight tears in his rotator cuff and shoulder repaired May 23 in Los Angeles. Lewis Yocum, the team doctor of the Anaheim Angels, will perform the surgery. It is not yet known exactly how long Armas will be sidelined. He last pitched April 20 against the Cincinnati Reds, giving up five earned runs in six innings of work. The 25-year-old righthander is 2-1 with a 2.61 ERA in five starts this season. Armas went 12-12 with a 4.44 ERA in 29 starts last season. After a disappointing start, he finished off the year by going 4-0 in September. The Puerto Piritu, Venezuela native came over to the Expos as a player to be named later in a November 18, 1997 trade that sent Pedro Martinez to the Boston Red Sox.
