(My Sportsbook) - In an attempt to reach double digits in the win column, the Detroit Tigers continue a three-game set at home today against the Seattle Mariners. Detroit suffered a 6-3 setback yesterday in the opener of the set. Dmitri Young finished 2-for-4 with a run for the Tigers, who have dropped five on their last seven. Craig Monroe notched two hits and an RBI in the losing effort. Jeremy Bonderman (2-6) suffered the loss. He gave up four runs on five hits to go along with seven strikeouts and five walks in five-plus innings of work. The Tigers placed infielder/designated hitter Dean Palmer on the 15-day disabled list Friday, retroactive to May 10, following a recurrence of shoulder and neck problems. Detroit has lost 11 of its last 14 games against the Mariners, including defeats in three of the four meetings this season. Set to take the hill today for Detroit is Nate Cornejo, a young righty who has been one of the few bright spots for the lowly Tigers. The 6-5 hurler, who owns an outstanding 2.66 ERA, surrendered two earned runs on seven hits in six innings Sunday as his Detroit squad posted a 9-2 win over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Today's game marks the first-ever appearance for Cornejo against the Mariners. Of the 38 games that the Tigers have played this season, 20 have been decided by two or fewer runs.
