Bironas' 60-yard kick lifts Titans over Colts

Nashville, TN (My Sportsbook) - Rob Bironas drilled a 60-yard field goal with seven seconds remaining to lift the Tennessee Titans to a 20-17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts at LP Field.

Vince Young marched the Titans 33 yards in nine plays over the final 2 1/2 minutes for the winning kick, as Tennessee (5-7) won its third straight game and second in a row in dramatic fashion.

Last week the Titans rallied from a 21-0 fourth-quarter deficit to pull out a 24-21 win over the New York Giants, as Bironas kicked a 49-yard field goal with six seconds to play.

The Colts (10-2) wasted a 14-0 lead in the first half and lost for the second time in three games. Indianapolis could have captured the AFC South title with a win and can still claim the crown for a fourth consecutive year if the Jacksonville Jaguars lose Sunday against Miami.

However, San Diego's 24-21 victory over Buffalo allowed the Chargers to tie the Colts for the top record in the AFC.

Indianapolis had just tied the game on a 20-yard field goal by Adam Vinatieri with 2:38 remaining and Tennessee took over on its own 25 after the kickoff.

Quickly facing 3rd-and-4, Young scrambled for nine yards to keep the drive alive and soon after threw an 18-yard pass to Bobby Wade for another first down at the Indianapolis 41 with 31 seconds left.

A penalty and three plays lost a yard and Titans head coach Jeff Fisher sent Bironas onto the field before changing his mind and sending punter Craig Hentrich out. The switch forced the Colts to call their final timeout and Fisher again put Bironas on the field.

With a strong wind at his back, Bironas' kick cleared the crossbar and sent the fans and players into a frenzy. It was the franchise's longest field goal and gave the Titans their first win over the Colts since December 2002.

Young finished the game 15-of-25 for 163 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He hit 10 different receivers, including Drew Bennett and Brandon Jones with touchdown tosses.

Travis Henry added 93 yards on 20 carries and Young also ran for 78 yards on nine scrambles, as Tennessee racked up 219 yards on the ground.

Peyton Manning threw for 351 yards on 21-of-28 passing with a touchdown and two interceptions in defeat. Marvin Harrison, who caught only one pass last week against Philadelphia, hauled in seven for 172 yards on Sunday.

The Titans scored 10 points on their final two drives of the first half to erase a 14-0 deficit, then carried the momentum into the third quarter.

Tennessee marched to the Indianapolis 15 on the first series of the second half before Young was intercepted by Marlin Jackson in the end zone.

The Titans got the ball back at their own five-yard line after a punt, but Young calmly engineered a 95-yard drive for the go-ahead touchdown. A 21-yard run by Henry on the first play allowed Tennessee to escape the shadow of its own goal line and Young then converted 3rd-and-5 with a 15-yard scramble.

After another 14-yard run by Young, the rookie hit Ahmard Hall out of the backfield with a 15-yard pass to set up a first down at the Indianapolis eight. Two plays netted a one-yard loss, but Young was unfazed and threw a nine-yard TD pass to Jones to complete the 11-play series and give Tennessee a 17-14 lead with 12:24 remaining in the game.

The Colts couldn't mount a threat on their next possession, but got the ball again at their own 15 with 7:19 to play and Manning directed a drive for the tying field goal.

A 60-yard pass to Harrison set up a first down at the 12 and the Colts picked up another first down at the two before Manning threw a touchdown pass to Ben Utecht, but the tight end was called for offensive pass interference to negate the score.

Vinatieri eventually booted a 20-yard field goal to knot the contest at 17-17 with 2:38 remaining.

Manning had the Colts moving on their second possession of the game, but a pass across the middle deflected off the hands of Harrison and into the arms of Tennessee linebacker Peter Sirmon, who returned the interception 13 yards to the Titans' 48.

Young, though, returned the favor just two plays later, as his pass toward the end zone was tipped by Jones and intercepted by Jason David.

Harrison then atoned for the mistake on the ensuing Indianapolis series, as he used a double move to blow past the Tennessee secondary and hauled in a 68- yard touchdown pass from Manning for a 7-0 lead with 3:51 left in the opening period.

Indianapolis scored again on its next possession when Dominic Rhodes capped a 14-play, 81-yard march with a two-yard touchdown run. The Colts ran the ball 10 times and converted a trio of third downs during the eight-minute drive.

The Titans followed with a 12-play series that stalled inside the Indianapolis 10-yard line, forcing a 25-yard field goal from Bironas with 1:49 to play in the half.

Manning was then picked off by Keith Bulluck with 31 seconds left and Young had enough time to move the Titans 42 yards for a touchdown. He completed passes of one and 21 yards before hitting Bennett with a 20-yard scoring strike to pull Tennessee within 14-10.

The Colts still had 11 seconds after the kickoff went out of bounds and Manning threw a 25-yard pass to set up a 53-yard field goal attempt that Vinatieri missed wide right.

Game Notes

Indianapolis had a streak of 12 straight division victories stopped and also had a string of seven straight wins against Tennessee halted...Colts running back Joseph Addai, last week's AFC Player of the Week after his 171-yard, four-touchdown performance against the Eagles, managed only 56 yards on 16 carries in this game...The Titans had 214 yards rushing in a 14-13 loss to the Colts on October 8...Indianapolis outgained Tennessee 451-382.
