(My Sportsbook) - The
Los Angeles Dodgers will try to continue their climb to the top of National League West this afternoon when they wrap up their three- game set against the
Florida Marlins at Dodger Stadium.
Los Angeles has posted 14 wins in its last 21 games, pulling within 4 1/2 games of first-place San Francisco in the West. The Dodgers have won the first two of their set with the Marlins and with a win today, they would complete their first three-game sweep of Florida in LA since taking three straight from April 28-30, 2000.
On Saturday, Paul Lo Duca and Jolbert Cabrera belted solo homers, as Odalis Perez pitched eight strong innings to lead Los Angles to a 4-1 win.
Perez (3-2) struck out eight while allowing just one run on three hits. He also walked a pair before handing the ball over to Eric Gagne, who worked a perfect ninth for his 14th save of the season.
Lo Duca finished 4-for-4 at the plate for the Dodgers, who have won three straight and nine of their last 13 games overall.
Taking the hill today for the Dodgers will be Japanese righthander Hideo Nomo, who is 4-4 on the year with a 3.23 ERA. Nomo, though, has been red-hot of late and is 3-1 in his last five starts while pitching to a 3.85 ERA.
Nomo didn't get the decision in the Dodgers' 11-4 loss to Atlanta on Monday, when he gave up three earned runs and four hits over seven innings. He also issued a season-high seven walks, giving him 31 for the season -- third-most in the NL.
He has also not fared well against the Marlins in his career, as he is just 3-10 with a 4.67 ERA in 16 career starts against Florida.
These squads split six meetings last season. However, the Dodgers own a 17-7 advantage in this set since the start of the 2000 campaign. Los Angeles is 10-2 in its last 12 home contests in the series.
