Chicago, IL (My Sportsbook) - The Chicago White Sox dismissed hitting coach Gary Ward on Monday and replaced him with former first baseman Greg Walker. Ward was relieved of his duties following a frustrating weekend that saw the team lose all three games to Minnesota at the Metrodome. Chicago's offense, picked to be one of the best in the American League, has struggled through the first 43 games of the 2003 season. The team is off to a 20-23 start and ranks just 12th in the American League in hitting with a .249 average. The 43-year-old Walker spent the past two seasons as hitting coach for the White Sox' Triple-A affiliate in Charlotte. Under his guidance, the Knights batted .262 with 173 home runs and 704 RBI in 185 games. Walker spent his nine-year career in the majors with the White Sox (1982-90) and Baltimore (1990) and hit .260 with 113 homers and 444 RBI.
