Detroit, MI (My Sportsbook) - The Detroit Lions announced Wednesday that defensive tackle Shaun Rogers was placed on injured reserve, ending his season after only six games. Rogers had been suspended four games in October for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy. The banned substance came from an appetite suppressant Rogers was taking to help monitor his weight, which was listed at 340 pounds. Rogers underwent knee surgery during his absence and hasn't been healthy enough for action since. "When he came back, guys could see he wasn't fully recovered from surgery," Detroit coach Rod Marinelli said. "It is a blow, losing him. He's a heck of a player. But we've been playing without him for eight weeks." Rogers ended the season with 36 tackles and a pair of sacks. He had a career-high 5 1/2 sacks last season, and missed just four games over five seasons after being drafted by Detroit in the second round of the 2001 draft out of Texas.
